MAYAN MYTHOLOGY. Serpents, Giants, Magical Birds and Mayan Gods
The Mayan mythological beings are all of impressive presence, ugly inside and out, intimidating, without entrails (the bodies of the X'tabay, the Chivo-witch and the giant Che Uinic, the Man of the woods, literally suffer from the bowels) and also roam at night... sleep by day, sometimes with their eyes open, so they are in fact in constant wakefulness; several have wings and others, like balames, fly without having them. A number of these beings belong to the circle of giants, who are shrewd and set traps for men to capture them, although sometimes it is possible, through ingenious tricks, to evade such tricks. The most pitiful of the Mayan monsters is the Kakasbal, a cluster of perversity, a kind of snarling and traveling Pandora's Box that has nothing to envy of the Minotaur, the Gorgons and so many other creatures of Hellenic mythology.
